Do you need a government approved certification for employment or hire?

Employers and workers are responsible for doing due diligence in researching first aid programs and certifications to make sure they are approved for the workplace in Alberta or the province of employment.

Approval letters from the Government of Alberta and Government of Northwest Territories for Lifesaving Society First Aid programs can be found

• Northwest Territories First Aid Government Approval Letter

The Lifesaving Society has Government of Alberta workplace approval for the following certification and re-certification courses:

• Lifesaving Emergency First Aid – approved as an emergency first aid
• Lifesaving Standard First Aid – approved as a standard first aid
• Lifesaving Standard First Aid Recertification- approved as a standard first aid
• Aquatic Emergency Care – approved as a standard first aid
• Aquatic Emergency Card Recertification- approved as a standard first aid
• The Government of Alberta Website maintains a list of workplace approved courses that can be accessed from their website.

For Successful Candidates

Certification cards for all first aid certifications will be issued electronically as of January 1, 2022 by the Lifesaving Society. Canadian Standard First Aid will issue an Interim Card valid for two (2) months to all candidates who successfully complete the necessary requirements Electronic certificates will be issued for all other training programs by Canadian Standard First Aid.
